2025 10th Daegu Photo Biennale, The Pulse of Life
Daegu Arts Center, Exhibition Rooms 1-13
Organized by Daegu Metropolitan City
Hosted by Daegu Foundation for Culture and Arts / Daegu Arts Center
The exhibition explores forms of life through the lens of symbiosis. From subterranean worlds to the dawn of artificial intelligence - with Courbet"s The Origin of the World as a reference point for artistic explorations of the origins of life – the exhibition invites us on a visual journey that transcends traditional boundaries. By juxtaposing scientific inquiry with artistic expression, documentary realism with speculative imagination, it challenges conventional ways of seeing and understanding life. A dynamic program of artist commissions, video installations and photographic works, spanning scientific and artistic perspectives – brings together over eighty international artists, attuned to the “pulse of life”.
A few pieces of my photographic works will be exhibited, including pieces from the Still Life and Mother of Pearl series.

#9Radical Surface Issue reimagines the ‘human surface’ and other material and immaterial skins as sites of contestation, transformation, and transcendence.
Inspired by ‘radical imagination’ – ideas rooted in activism and framed as a visionary capacity to foresee a future that transcends current realities – the magazine gestures towards the possibility of profound societal transformation.
Thinkers such as Donna Haraway, Ursula K. Le Guin, Rosi Braidotti, and Pravu Mazumdar have helped shape this thinking, alongside myriad artists, designers, and scientists who speculate on human futurity and multi-species worldings.
9.VII. Shimmering Worlds: A Sense Of Brilliance, And The Lightness Of BeingThe cosmic allure of luminous surfaces – metals, gemstones, pearls, polished obsidian – whose light-bound spirituality connects Indigenous American understandings of earth, sea and sky.

Mother of Pearl
June 2024
My new photo book ‘Mother of Pearl’ is now available to order! This collection highlights the beauty of nature, from delicate roses and still life to the landscapes of Maui and Death Valley. Inspired by classical still-life painting and the Dutch Golden Age, I use digital photography and scanography to capture nature with a Renaissance-inspired play of light and shadow. I’ve curated my favorite pieces from 2017 to 2022 for this book. The hardcover edition measures 8 x 9 inches (20 x 23 cm) and includes 56 full-color images. After a long wait, ‘Mother of Pearl’, which was ready in 2023, is now available in my shop. 🌸

Non-Natural exhibition explores the abstract and intangible elements of artistic creativity, emphasizing conceptual aspects such as originality and expression that precede technique and media. Highlighting the abstract aspects of human complexity within philosophical thought, "Non-Natural" embraces Non-Naturalism—a philosophical perspective that seeks to understand human nature across metaphysical, moral, and aesthetic dimensions, contrasting sharply with the reductionist thought prevalent in modern science and technology.

A blend of contemporary photography, video, sculpture, and installations highlights nature's placement in contemporary art. The beauty, richness, fragility, and diversity of nature are represented by 17 contemporary artists, all of whom are interested in understanding, discovering, and expressing themselves in this world. Together, they have created an inspiring and conceptual philosophical reflection on the cycle of life and death and the variability of time.

On the occasion of the celebration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Aimé Césaire and the fortieth anniversary of his last collection moi, laminaire… , Captures presents a collective exhibition, imagined by Colette Césaire and supported by the Fondation Clément de Martinique.
Césairian poetry is put into dialogue with the works of three contemporary photographers, Juliette Agnel, Nicolas Derné and Xuebing Du.
Nous, laminaires invites you to a walk through the natural landscapes of Martinique, a source of inspiration for Aimé Césaire's poetic writing. A collective journey, which reveals to us the deep self of the Poet, and also the authentic nature of this island and its people. Symbolic landscapes and duels: sometimes magnificent, sometimes catastrophic, sometimes both; sometimes energetic, sometimes destructive or nightmarish, sometimes both.
An eminently poetic nature. Martinique, a land of both suffering and hope.

Just in time for all vegetation to start to come to life after winter hibernation, the new exhibition In Bloom opens at Fotografiska. 16 contemporary photographers are gathered here, all striving to understand and explore nature and man's relationship to it. The exhibition In Bloom is a symbolic, philosophical and poetic exploration of nature in photography and shows a glimpse of how photographers represent and work with it today. What all the artists in the exhibition have in common is that they find their inspiration in the green, regardless of whether they tell of pleasure and fragility, as in Xuebing Du's beautiful flower studies, of brutality and control as in Ori Gersht's violently treated flower arrangements, or of mastery as in Yan Wang Preston's controlled urban nature.

With a suggested soundtrack of Ryuichi Sakamoto classics, Junya Watanabe is off to Bhutan with his loungey SS22 menswear lineup. The COMME des GARÇONS vet often channels workwear cues for his MAN collection and though his new offering does uphold that tenet, it's filtered through a Buddhist lens; appropriate given Bhutan's religious background.
Watanabe was especially inspired by photographer Jamie Hawkesworth's documentation of a Bhutanese trip, mixing elements of Hawkesworth's series with works from a variety of international artists to create some inspired pattern play. Truckers jackets, short-sleeved sweaters, anoraks, sarouel trousers, and shoulder bags are graced with vivid imagery from the likes of Phannapast Taychamaythakool, Ang Tsherin Sherpa, Xuebing Du, and Marta Olga Klara, to name only a few. The all-hands affair really drives home the international feel.

Flora Imaginaria: The Flower in Contemporary Photography, features a spectacular bouquet of flower imagery drawn from many different genres of photography, produced over the past three decades (1990–2020).
The photographs in the show highlight the beauty and diversity of flowers, which have long been appreciated aesthetically for their colors and forms, as well as for their decorative potential and symbolic power. More than 70 prints by some 50 photographers from around the globe will be featured. Their varied work is displayed both inside, in the Museum of Botany & the Arts, and outside in the Gardens, providing visitors a unique encounter with art in the context of nature. “Imaging Nature Between Painting and Photography” features a selection of 40 masterful artworks of Zeng Xiaolian, each depicting the richness of nature and the cycle of botanical life. Zeng Xiaolian is one of China’s leading botanical illustrators, and still holds the title of Senior Engineer of the Botanical Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in whose name he devoted his life to paintings of flowers and birds with a rigorous scientific spirit and reverence and passion for life. Since his retirement in 1997, Zeng Xiaolian continues to depict biodiversity in praise of the flourishing beauty of nature. The exhibition also refers to the mutual influence between photography and painting since the advent of photography in 1839. The exhibition features works by both domestic and international artists such as Nobuyoshi Araki, Liu Ye, and Giovanni Ozzola, presenting the flora, fauna, and natural phenomena in different media and expressive forms.
Xuebing Du x GEOSPIRIT
Forest Light is a walk in the forest through the changing seasons.
By night under the moon; by day under the sun, the magical forest comes to life, offering an experience of colours, fragrances and enchanted atmospheres!
Xuebing focuses her work on the different elements of the natural world, especially plants and flowers. In her vibrant images, she highlights the beauty of nature, enhancing its texture, light, and color. Through the power and elegance of her images, we selected 4 subjects for the 4 natural elements represented by Geospirit.
BLOOMING LOVE, this is the name of the new capsule collection of bags resulting from the collaboration between Benedetta Bruzziches and Xuebing Du.
The jewel bags by Benedetta Bruzziches for A/W 2021 become a blank canvas on which Xuebing Du reproduces some of the shots of her photographic production. Those in which multi-colored roses appear caught in full bloom, so bright that they appear almost surreal, otherworldly. The play of light and shadow that is created creates a delicate, but at the same time sculptural effect. Like the shape that Benedetta Bruzziches has given to her luxury bags. Starting with her BB – the bag in homage to Brigitte Bardot – which now becomes a limited edition and shows off a wavy shape. Emblem, according to the designer, of the uncertain times we are living in.
